European Alps
by TRAVEL IMAGES small-group photo tours
Location: Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and Liechtenstein
This European Alps itinerary takes in Berchtesgaden, Grossglockner, Heiligenblut, St. Magadalena, Innsbruck, St. Moritz, Zermatt, Interlaken, Liechtenstein, and Ludwig’s castles. All of this will be interwoven with spectacular mountain passes, wildflowers, and rustic Swiss and Austrian communities that nestle beneath the magnificence of the towering Alps. A little bit of Italy and Germany will also be thrown into the mix. Europe is a place to be savored, touched, and of course, photographed. Take the opportunity offered by this Travel Images’ European Alps trip to photograph the same maze of cobbled streets that musicians, poets, artists and thousands of talented folk trod down the centuries. You’ll also be encouraged to lower your camera, and make new friends amid the mosaic of quaint communities of the log-cabin spectacle that lies amid the picturesque foothills of these towering Alps. This photo tour moves from Germany, to Austria, Italy, Switzerland and back to Germany via more of Austria. We’ll traverse alpine passes while seeking out the local village fête and faire, and have a chat with the locals in broken French, German or Italian! The facial grins you capture with your camera, plus those placed on your heart will live on and on within you. Europe is that charming and intoxicating. Baines River Camp - Zambia
by Roger de la Harpe - Africa Imagery
Location: Zambezi River near the Lower Zambezi National Park
The exclusive Baines River Camp is situated on the Zambian side of the mighty Zambezi River and consists of 6 Victorian cottages overlooking the river. There is a central dining and conference facility and it is here that our workshops take place. These 5-night/4-day workshops are quite special in that much of the photography is done from a boat. While the aluminum boats used are capable of seating 10 or more people, we limit the numbers to 6 participants per boat so that there is no jostling for space.
These workshops are aimed at the intermediate photographer (although we can work very easily with beginners as well) offering an introduction to photography and Photoshop. Both in the field and back at base the focus will be on composition, visual complexity, focal point placement and image depth. We also deal with camera controls and photographic principles. Early mornings, late afternoons and early evenings are spent shooting images, during which we deal with working a subject, anticipating animal behaviour, keeping the camera steady, lens choice and effects and camera features such as motion, blur and fill flash.
The cost of this workshop is obtainable directly from Baines River Camp at info@bainesrivercamp.com.

Palouse of Washington and Idaho
by TRAVEL IMAGES small-group photo tours
Location: The Palouse in northern Idaho and eastern Washington
Harvest time in America’s photogenic breadbasket. If you didn't know where the Palouse was until a few moments ago, you’re not alone! It is of Gallic origin due to the French fur trappers who gave the region it's name. The terrain itself is deep rolling soil . . . ideal growing conditions, and why a majority of the USA's grain is grown here. Old barns sit atop the landscape in hidden nooks and crannies, while flowing lines and flying chaff complement the harvesting shots. We’ll be out at dawn and dusk as always. Escalante National Monument Workshop
by 2008 Photography Workshops
Location: Southern Utah
Escalante National Monument in southern Utah was created in 1996 and contains nearly 2 million acres of primordial land. This monument is an ideal location for nature photography, as it contains an endless array of natural wonders, including numerous slot canyons, natural arches, and hoodoos.
During the August/September, 2008 workshop, professional nature photographer Grant Collier will lead participants to some of the best photographic locations in and around Escalante National Monument. Each day will consist of instructional sessions of varying lengths, along with shoots at practically every hour of the day and night. Participants will therefore have the option to choose which shoots they are most interested in, from sunrise shoots at the break of dawn to star trail shoots lasting well into the night!
During this workshop, Grant will teach participants about composition, lighting, shutter speed and aperture settings, filters, tripods, film, and much more. He will also go beyond the basics and provide a list of tips and "tricks" that many of the nation's premier nature photographers use to turn good shots into great shots.
Grant will also teach participants the digital imaging tools and techniques involved in creating professional-quality digital photographs. This will include determining the optimum settings for your digital camera, processing files with Lightroom and Photoshop, and preparing files for printing. Grant will also explain how to stitch photos together to produce very large images and how best to convert color images to black & white.

Big Bend National Park
by TRAVEL IMAGES small-group photo tours
Location: Big Bend National Park, Texas
Big Bend National Park is desert, Rio Grande canyon and river, Chisos mountain range, mammal, bird and flora. Also included are San Antonio side-bars such as the Riverwalk and famed Alamo. Starting and finishing our Texas sojourn in San Antonio, you will find that Big Bend National Park offers plenty for the photographer. This is peak wild flower and bird visibility time in the park, and you'll be kept busy with the contrasting fusion's of mountain, river, desert and colorful cacti. Big Bend is the least visited of America’s national parks due it's remote location, and is one of the last remaining wild corners of the United States with unmatched sights, and a peaceful solitude. Native American folklore records that, "After making Earth, the Creator simply 'dumped' all the remaining rock at Big Bend". That all sounds photogenic, but photograph the place for yourself in the slanting March light. Photographer-Guide, John Baker. 1-800-325-8320 / phototours@travelimages.com
